Couples Therapy Doesn’t Hold Back

Some people are so invested in the appearance of a healthy and happy marriage that they find it difficult to open up and admit to their problems and unhappiness, even during couples therapy.

First of all, if you and your partner have sought out couples therapy, it is probably because there are some troubling issues or problems in the relationship that you have not been able to overcome as a couple. This is nothing to be embarrassed about or to try to hide, especially from the person you have gone to for help.

When you and your partner go to couples counseling, it should be with the understanding that your therapist will want to know about the issues and problems in your marriage. It is, however, up to you to tell them.

It should be expected that the Therapy sessions will delve into your relationship, the two of you as individuals and the issues in the relationship. The two of you as a couple should try to discuss these things without holding back. Therapy isn’t a time to hold back and be polite, because it is often most effective when a couple analyzes the good, the bad and the ugly of the relationship as a whole.

Couples counseling has helped many couples learn how to effectively deal with their problems and can also help prevent minor problems from becoming major obstacles in the relationship. A couple that gets counseling has a much better chance of a happy, successful relationship than a couple who ignores the problems until they are simply too big to ignore any longer.
