The Preparation of a New You via Couples Counseling
Many people leave couples counseling feeling considerably different than when they started. They weren’t prepared for such a healthy change but it happened anyway! That’s because we often consider problems we’re having with others as separate from us, not emanating from us. Once we begin the therapeutic process, changes occur from deep within.
Here’s what one client had to say:
I thought of therapy as something totally different. Maybe its because of the way I saw it one television – you know, someone lying on the couch while the doctor takes notes and says, “Hmm…” Well our therapist never saw those shows, that’s for sure. Our therapy was very active and dare I say, sometimes even fun. Corrine and I hadn’t laughed together in years but our therapist had us playing games and interacting on a whole different level.
The most important part is that I began to feel differently outside of therapy. I wasn’t so stressed out anymore, for instance. I was able to handle my boss better and we had been having problems for some time. I just felt free from the old me, who used to worry all the time and never laugh. I never expected that I’d change from therapy – just that our problems would get better. Actually, both occurred.
Couples counseling explores the deeper issues surrounding your marital or relationship difficulties. In turn, it explores the deeper issues and patterns within you. So be prepared for a new you, via counseling – one free of the baggage and negative internal dialogue that’s been holding you down for some time.
