Anger and Family Therapy
Anger in a marriage takes a far deeper toll when there are children involved. Wheareas some couples may feel that spark of excitement when they argue, it is simply not a good enough reason to accept those patterns of relating once there are children in a home.
Anger itself is a very negative pattern in any relationship and usually takes root and thrives in relationships that have a base resting upon insecurities and past pain. Open communication in these relationships cannot heal, even with the best of intentions, if they are consistently bludgeoned and buried beneath layers of resentment whenever they try to come forth. When these patterns have taken root in a home with children, the children are exposed and therefore taught that anger and hurt are normal patterns of relating and reacting, causing social and academic problems.
Fortunately, there are many mental health professionals who are highly skilled and experienced in helping patients break the cycles of anger and resentment and find a new path towards healthy relationships. There are treatment programs and services available to chronically angry individuals who are in need of intensive anger management therapy, and there are more traditional individual therapy models to help couples move past the anger and help resolve the issues that have brought about such resentment.
For families with children who have been exposed to the damaging effect of long term anger issues, family therapy is available to help those in need of behavior changes and those in need of support to help them understand their environment and their roll in it.
