When Family Therapy is Mandated by Separation
When marriage counseling is not used to help a couple come to a better understanding in their relationship then it is quite often a family therapist who is called in to pick up the pieces when a couple decides to divorce. And their family needs real help. It would have been helpful if the couple had originally attended marriage counseling learn to communicate in a style and manner that benefited their relationship and their family, but when that time has passed by and a decision already made, the children often need family therapy to help them come to terms with their changing world.
When a couple has already gone through a divorce or is in the act of going through a divorce, there is most commonly a high level of tension between them. Some very lucky and very mature couples are able to go through the divorce process in a “friendly” way and amicably decide how to best continue their lives, but for many people the anger, resentment and antagonistic approach to communication has already been set and the availability of a free-for-all fight is hard to resist. The children and others in the family pay a hard price for this freedom to argue.
Mandated family therapy is often a service issued by the state to ensure that the children of divorcing couples have their voices heard and everyone involved can do their best to make the best of the situation and come away a better family.
If your family is in need of family therapy to deal with a separation, please schedule the appointment now and give your children the voice and the support that they need.
