Counseling To Clean the Clutter
Marriages can be buried in many different ways, but some of them are buried, quite literally, in a flurry of clutter and resentment. If cleaning and clutter are two of the main factors that are hurting your marriage, then it may be time for some marriage counseling to help you clean up your home, your marriage and your life.
Clutter in your home will accompany clutter in your mental state. There are simply too many reminders, both physical and not, hanging around. Everything new gets stuffed on the same shelves until there simply isn’t any more room. Clutter and cleaning are some of the major factors that cause couples to come in for counseling.
The fact is, cleaning and clutter removal is a team effort. You have to address the issue calmly and work together to inspire each other into a willingness to change.
- Remember that cleaning and working side by side in a room will allow you and your partner to be together and even to reconnect by talking about and re-living some of the memories attached to the items your are putting away.
- Purchasing bins and labels to organize clutter and put it away also offers a tangible way for couples to compartmentalize their old issues, find closure, and finally move on.
- Take a lot of breaks. This type of mass-scale project goes best when it is done in shorter spurts. After all, you don’t want all of your enthusiasm and energy to be burnt out in the first few hours. Set a timer for cleaning and organizing, 30-45 minutes works great. When the timer goes off, it’s time for a break! Have a snack together, go outside and go for a walk.
Marriage Counseling is a great way to get rid of the clutter in your life, but the clutter in your home will require some physical labor.
