Laughter In Marriage and Life

Laughter in marriage has always been said to be a wonderful remedy for cynical bickering. Many experts agree that couples that laugh together enjoy a deeper bond of friendship and marriage.

A Common Laughing Philosophy

A sense of humor is an objective thing, so when you find someone with a sense of humor like yours it can result in the kind of friendship and bond that carries a marriage well beyond the early years of newness and passion. Humor is a shared language and a shared moment, so if you‘re speaking different laugh-languages from the start it can lead to some difficult spots.

Why is it preferable that you and your partner have a common sense of humor? If you have ever told a joke that you though was funny beyond reason, only to be met with a deafening silence, you know how uncomfortable a solitary sense of humor can be. This isn‘t to say that you and your partner need to have the same idea of funny, only that a complimentary sense of humor will probably get you a lot farther in your relationship.

Laughter is one of the best ways to diffuse the tension during a heated moment. In very difficult moments, both parties are so tense that their bodies are in need of a release, which laughter can provide, opening the doors for a calmer discussion.

Laughter in Balance

Remember, though, that humor, as with all things in a relationship, should be balanced. If there is no balance and everything is a joke, then there is little chance for real sensitivity, realistic decisions and practicality to help you progress as a couple. Too many practical jokes and witty remarks can eventually take their toll if they are not countered with your serious side.

Laughter can be just what you need in your marriage.
