Quiet Beauty in Long Term Marriage
For all of the celebrity marriages that are talked about and gossiped about, the ones that last the longest seldom receive the most publicity. Like any social circle, the gossiped items are those that change often enough to keep the gossip fresh. Those couples who have little change in their relationship leave little to be talked about and so aren’t discussed that often.
Hollywood marriages receive an enormous amount of press and publicity and, for many, the amount of attention brought on their relationship is part of the reason that they are able to stay in the public’s eye at all. For a marriage to last long term, the couple has to be able to take support from one another and find their comfort in one another rather than in the amount of press they receive. Not as easy as it may appear.
The recent passing of actor Patrick Swayze has brought attention to the fact that he and his wife, Lisa Niemi, were married for over 30 years in a profession where a marriage of 30 months is often celebrated as old. They received little personal press about their relationship over the years because it was as exciting and boring and predictable and unpredictable as any other regular long term marriage.
There was little in the way of Hollywood style gossip in the marriage. Instead there were ups and down, personal and professional tragedies, losses and gains and everything in between to be celebrated and loved .
