What is the Future of Marriages?
Is the institution of marriage dying? With an alarming rate of divorces in our country, it is imperative not to look at the future of marriages positively. What makes us think so negatively about marriages? Of course, the divorce rates! It is generally believed that the divorce rate is as close to 50% in the US. I came across some statistics on marriage and divorce on DivorceRate.org.
Interestingly, the divorce rates for second and third marriages are much higher than the first marriage. This indicates that it is a good idea to try to save a marriage than look for happiness in future relationships.
There is a trend that is gradually developing in relationships: people have started to avoid getting married in order to avoid the pain of divorce. And this is where hope stems from. People have come to realize that divorce is bad. It strains people emotionally and makes a huge impact in terms of finances. And if there are children involved, divorce makes matters worse. And there is a high probability that the children’s marriages will also end in divorce.
I say the future of marriages is bright because people understand what a devil divorce is. Only if it is to avoid divorce, people are seeking counseling when things go wrong in their marriages. This is a good thing, the fact that they are ready to make an effort. And this is the reason that makes me optimistic about the future of marriages. The number of marriages may go down but a majority of them will stay.
