Past Celebrity Marriage Advice
People turn to many different resources in their search for marriage help, and it is no surprise that many listen to what their idols have to say on the subject. For many people, their idols and heroes turn out to be celebrities, and marriage advice is in no small way just a tiny segment in interviews in print and other media. Taking marriage advice from someone who’s job it is to put themselves out there and promote themselves as happy and successful may not be the best idea, however. One of the many key points in any celebrity interview is the make sure they can be relatable by the “every person.” Since there is not such thing as an “every person,” it makes cliché answers that mean virtually nothing.
In a recent interview on Showbiz Tonight, actor Matt Damon said that one of the secrets to a happy marriage is the prolific use of the words “You’re right, honey.” While it is most likely a simple line that his staff put out there for him to appear accessible, witty and an easy husband, the advice only serves to continue the cliché of how a successful marriage can last.
