Reorganizing with Marriage Counseling

Jillian and Steve began their search for a marriage counselor after 2 young children and multiple jobs had forced the family into a stressful, overwhelming group that little resembled the organized and free-spirited family they had started out as.

Jillian said:

I’m an artist. I have a professional education and made a living selling my paintings until our children were born. After that, it was difficult to find the time to paint, so our income decreased. Steve got a second job to make up for the lost income and suddenly we went from having some time together as a family and a little time for me to no one having any free time at all, and miserable to boot.

Marriage counseling is highly beneficial option for couples who have gone from a romantic twosome with dynamic careers to overwhelmed parents with no personal time to focus on themselves or their careers. Higher career and parenting expectations for women have caused no end of guilty, overwhelmed and exhausted women to seek out marriage counseling.

The marriage counselor realized that this couple was under an enormous amount of stress and so suggested a stress management program for each of them that included one-on-one time, recreational time and meditation practices. They also built in time for the wife to paint, as this would serve a dual role of decreasing her stress while allowing for an increase in income. While it wasn’t easy rearranging an already tight schedule, the couple was willing to make certain adaptations for the sake of their marriage and their children as well as sanity.

Marriage Counseling teaches practical measures for the couples to help manage their stress levels and their shared responsibilities in an atmosphere of open communication.
