Romantic Vacation Vs. Marriage Counseling
Every time Hollywood produces a new movie or show based on the miraculous abilities of a vacation to help heal a rift in a marriage, couples in trouble start booking their resort stays. The problems in the relationship don’t heal, even with a weekend of spa treatments, but with the media touting the fun, sexy images of beaches and bikinis it is hard to argue with the intent behind it all.
Generations of couples have resorted to romantic getaways and vacations as a way to reconnect and find themselves together again as a couple, and the plan is a good one. The plan is excellent for those couples who have found themselves busy and without the time to connect together and devote to each other. The problem with the plan is when it is put forth as a plan of action for couples with deep-seated issues that are well beyond the lack of quality time together.
Couples with real issues and problems in their relationship often have habitually formed communication gaps, deep resentments and emotional needs that are not and have not been met for quite some time. A weekend away or a short vacation often makes the situation more obvious when they arrive back home and to the reality of their relationship, which has been waiting patiently for their return.
If you are a couple with real problems in your relationship, do not be disappointed if a romantic vacation didn’t solve your issues. A lasting relationship takes time and work, and a marriage counselor can help you make sure your next couples vacation is for all the right reasons.
