You Know if You Need Marriage Counseling
Even if, to outside observers, your marriage seems like a harmonious match made in heaven, the fact is that you know when something is wrong. Every marriage is different. Some have a constant stream of low level bickering that is actually a part of the couple’s communication pattern while others function calmly and slowly. Only you can tell if your marriage is going through a difficult time and in need of help.
Often the mere thought that your marriage may be in trouble is enough of an indicator that it’s time to look for a couples counselor. If you are thinking that you need outside help to assist you in communicating more effectively and better understanding your spouse then the chances are that your partner is thinking that, too.
There are common signs of a marriage in need of therapy, however, only you know which of the signs pertain to you and what elements are out of key in your marriage.
Signs of Marriage in need of Counseling
- You and your spouse are arguing more and more
- You are distancing yourselves from each other
- Arguments have started to include name-calling and “below the belt” attacks aimed to really hurt your partner
- The joy and happiness in your marriage is gone
- There seems to be nothing left to talk about without fighting
- A mutual loss of respect
- Lack of trust and overall suspiciousness is taking over
- Sexual intimacy has changed, become intermittent or lost all together
- You have nothing nice to say to one another
Again, many of these signs will be obvious to you even if outside friends and family see nothing wrong with your relationship. If you think you and your spouse are in need of marriage counseling, listen to your instincts.
