Healthy Relationship Keys

A healthy relationship is one that fulfills both your needs and the needs of your partner. Of course, it stands to reason that if unhealthy needs are being met, this doesn’t actually help anyone, either. A healthy relationship doesn’t necessarily mean a romantic one, but any close emotional bond that you have with family and important friends.

Healthy Relationships

Some of the keys to a healthy relationship are:

  • Honesty and Trust: Honesty and trust often go hand-in-hand as they use each other to build or tear down relationships. If you’re not honest, your partner won’t trust you. If you’re partner won’t trust you, you tend to be less honest in order to mollify that trust. While everyone has their small, personal secrets, having an open relationship with honesty and trust can help you weather many other storms that you’re going to face. If your ex-boyfriend is in town and calls to meet up for lunch, the situation could be disastrous if you didn’t tell your partner the truth. “Tony called. He’d like to meet for lunch and catch up. I thought we’d meet at Caliente’s at around 1:00, so I’ll be back home by 3:00. By being open and honest, you can take the fear and suspicion out of the equation.
  • Mutual Respect: Respect goes a long way in a relationship. If your partner respects you then that means they value who the other is and understands the other person’s boundaries. Respect also means standing up for your own boundaries.

Finding the keys to a healthy relationship is easy, though actually putting those ideas into practice can be difficult.
