Anxiety Affecting Your Marriage
Relationships and marriages can be difficult even during the good years, so the additional stress put on a relationship where one of the partners suffers from Anxiety or depression can have disastrous effects on marriage. If the couple doesn’t seek help both together and on individual levels, the underlying problems in the relationship as well as potential treatments for success cannot rebalance. Even when anxiety and depression seem to recede and the marriage makes some headway to recover, the issues rear up again – often worse then before – causing long term damage to the marriage.
Stacy said:
I had been suffering with anxiety for about three years. Sometimes it wouldn’t be so bad, other times it was bad enough that I lost friendships and even my job. I had tried different methods on how to cope with it, but eventually my husband said that he couldn’t rely on me and that he didn’t trust me to take care of the kids anymore. I knew that I had to get professional help before I lost my family, or hurt them.
Stacy and Bill began marriage therapy to help them deal with communication and understanding of one another. At the same time, Stacy underwent medical treatment and individual therapy to diagnose her illness and get her on the right courses of medication and personal, individualized therapy to treat her anxiety.
If you or your loved one is suffering from anxiety or depression, don’t hesitate to seek counseling, both for your relationship and at an individual level.
