Anxiety Disorder and Negative Thinking

Negative thinking is a powerful deterrent to a happy marriage. Constant negative thinking takes its toll not only on the person having those thoughts but on the people around them in their daily lives who find themselves under the onslaught of negative thoughts.

Negative thinking is also a major indicator of someone with anxiety disorder. Many people who eventually turn to anxiety therapy say that they have a very difficult time not focusing on things that can go wrong. For these people, seldom is there any happy future or outcome in their mind. The future is full of worrisome thoughts and a litany of bleak mishaps and mistakes. Many of these people who see such a bleak picture of the world around them tell themselves that they are realists. Perhaps they are, but many of them also suffer needlessly from anxiety disorder.

For those with a constant stream of negative thoughts, once a negative thought takes hold the mind refuses to let it go and then that one negative thought triggers another and another.

This type of negative thinking can be disastrous on a marriage. It is difficult for partners to be happy together when one of them is, essentially, worried and miserable and talking only of all the things that can go wrong.

Sully:
Let’s go to the Keys for vacation. A little sunshine and some tropical drinks and we’ll have a great time.
Lisa:
It’s hurricane season. With our luck we’ll be hit by a hurricane and either spend our vacation in the airport waiting for a flight or washed out to sea.”

Constant negativism is not an ingredient to a positive and healthy marriage, so if you or your loved one sees only the bad in things, consider anxiety therapy to help.
